spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs is the bridge-ranking as far as I know and the ranking we usually use in live games I play in.

Re: WTF is the rank of suits?
I remember reading something from a book, I think it was Big Deal by Anthony Holden, that stated what the suits represented. For example, spades=military, hearts=church. Anyone else recall this or know what each suit represents?

Re: WTF is the rank of suits?
In the Western Culture the suit order from high to low is:
Spade, Heart, Diamonds, Clubs (easy to remember as alphabetical order). In the Eastern Culture the suit order is: Spade, Heart, Clubs, Diamonds. So if you play Big 2 in, say, Taiwan, the people would be used to S H C D. If you play Poker in the United States, people would again be used to S H D C. The tricky part is what happens when you play something like Big 2 in United States. There isn't a general consensus. Some places go with the original suit order as it is in the Asian countries, and some places adapt the Western suit ranking in the asian games. Some places like Commerce has recently adopted a rule where the extra chip in a chopped pot goes to the person with the higher suited high card. Make sure you have that Ace of Spades before you play! Hope this helps, ~andy |
