Default Restoring my laptop - pls tp be helping

Recenly my laptop had a RAID corruption error or something and now it won't even start the OS when I boot up.

It now goes to the vaio recovery utility, which I tried to use to restore my C drive, but it paused at 16% and stayed like that for several hours last night while I was sleeping. When I tried again this morning there was a similar pause, so I assume that this will not work.

Then I tried to install windows using a CD that I have and the setup started fine, but now it says that I don't have any hard drives attached to my computer.

I remember this happened on my dell desktop and I solved it by going in the [bios?] by hitting a button when the computer started and then switching some option either on or off to do with RAID or the HDD. I don't know how to do it again and on my laptop.

Does anyone know what I did and how I can do it again? And is it a waste of my time since the vaio recovery didn't work and therefore my HD may be fried?

Thanks for reading.

TA
