Default If Ron Paul doesn\'t win the primary...

...I'm all over Christine Smith.

This is the first time I've ever been in complete agreement with a politician on every issue (or at least, all the issues they've expressed an opinion on). Even all the other LP candidates have some flaws imo.

Does anyone have more info on who's the favorite to get the LP nom? Boro?

I haven't followed Big L Libertarian politics in several years, ever since I decided that:

A) The system is completely rigged against third parties, and

B) The LP is a joke.

(B) might have changed in the past few years, though I highly doubt it, but there is no way that (A) has.

Libertarian Party internal politics is full of . . . politics. Petty fighting over power and influence, etc.

Think about that. WTF kind of power and influence do you have in the frigging LIBERTARIAN PARTY that you have to have intrigues and power struggles over?

Not to mention the fact that the people who stay LP activists for more than a few years strike me as those unwilling to, or incapable of, following through to the logical conclusions of the philosophy. Not to mention the magnetic attraction of the Party to lonely kooks and one-issue nuts who haven't the foggiest CLUE what "libertarianism" is. There is no end to the hippie pot smokers who call themselves "Libertarians" that are all for government "protecting" the environment, or "regulating" business. And then there is the converse, who completely overlook the incestuous relationship of business and the state. Then there's the socialists in Libertarian clothing (ala Bill Maher) and the neocons in Libertarian clothing (ala Neal Boortz).

Murray Rothbard gave up on the LP decades ago, because quite frankly, most of them just don't "get it", it being actual libertarianism.

Several years ago. I got 14% of the vote. Trip report is that I learned that the system is rigged.

If I had not run, the incumbant Democrat would have run unopposed, because the Republicans generally do not bother to run against Democrats in their districts, and vice versa. In my state, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of races that are unopposed, because the districts are completely gerrymandered. Almost every seat is secure. Rarely a state legislator will do something particularly egregious and either be sent to prison or actually get defeated in an election, but the latter is rare.

Libertarians are excluded from state wide debates by the duopoly candidates. They tell whatever group is sponsoring the debate that they will simply not show up if the Libertarian candidate is invited, and since the group knows that without the major party candidates there is no debate, they acquiesce.

Not to mention that reporters honestly seem to get a perverse pleasure in making Libertarians sound crazy. "Libertarian Nut Wants to Get Rid of the People Who Feed Me My Press Releases" is what the headlines should really read. I cannot tell you the number of times I saw reporters talk to a Libertarian candidate for 15 or 20 minutes solid, waiting for that one quote of one half of one single sentence out of context like ". . . we should legalize heroin . . . " or some such.

It was going to be specifically about global warming, as I feel like I've adequately addressed "lesser" environmental issues elsewhere.

I still haven't gotten around to it.

If you want the executive summary here it is:

Given in arguendo that global warming is occurring, could have negative consequences, is man's fault, etc., if you want to solve a global problem, the very last thing you should be doing is attacking the accumulation of capital and the production of energy.

I think someone can legitimately be a minarchist libertarian and think the government should protect the environment. In fact, I would say myself that while air and ocean should be privately owned, until that happens they do need to be protected as best we can and the government, for better or worse, is the legitimate agency for protecting "collective interests". It's no different than supporting government for defensive military or for police/fire department.

I'm not sure he still calls himself a libertarian. I dunno how he can given his strong dislike of Ron Paul.

I think his dislike for RP comes mostly from flaming headcases who call his show, lie to the screener and then get on the air and make ridiculous pitches for RP.

They do it on Hannity too.

Edit: I could be wrong, I haven't heard his show in some time now, due to job restraints.
