Default Re: So, we are going to Foxwoods in May

On Thursday night at about 7:30, Drew, Todd and David rolled up on my crib. After dropping off their stuff, we headed out to dinner downtown in ever-so-glamorous Middletown, CT at a fairly nice Italian place called Lupo. I had some shrimp & spinach ravioli, which were really good (8/10); Drew also got some ravioli of some other variety; don't remember what David got, but Todd got like 3 whole chickens, and proceeded to take like 3 hours to eat them. Anyway, dinner was quite nice. We stopped by Dunkin' Donuts on the way back to my pad in order to get some coffee to fuel our night of drinking and playing HOES (Hold 'em, O8, Stud high). When we got back to the joint (my house), we saw Matt (Str8Fish) sitting outside my house in his car (hence his message). Luckily, he'd only been there about 5 minutes.

It took us way longer than it should have to figure out how to do buy in and get chips counted out for our game. But eventually we got to donking it up. We were drinking Grey Goose pear, the bottle of champagne from the December Foxwoods trip (which was Domaine St. Michelle, 8/10) that never got opened, and also the "champagne of beers"--Miller High Life (10/10). And I don't want to hear your lip, Wookie.

Anyway, in one noteworthy hand, Matt raised first in and I 3-bet 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on principle. Everyone else folded. Todd was dealing and was like "Hey, man, what you got?" I showed him my cards and was like--"I'll flop you a set for a nickel." I shook my head yes and then he dealt out A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]x[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Matt donked and I raised, he called. The turn brought the 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Matt pulled an unexploitable check-raise, which I promptly 3-bet. He called and then wisely donked the river, which also got raised. Ship me your $2, Matt. That's +.5bb at 2/4. I dragged the pot and threw Todd his $0.05.

After this we played some Halo, which I totally dominated. Matt was pretty good, but Drew and Todd were both abysmally bad. Around this time, David and I came up with the idea of mixing the Grey Goose pear with birch beer (7.5/10). It seemed like a good idea at the time. David enjoyed the drink muchly and praised my brilliant concoction. (He was unwilling to drink the Grey Goose straight, claimed, "Oh, wow, that's killer, eh?" or something equally Canadian and wussy (perhaps that's redundant?). He also ordered his coffee at Dunkin' with like 6 creams and 9 sugars or something like that.)

Anyway, whenever someone approached Drew in Halo trying to shoot him, he immediately started just spinning in circles and firing his gun. Todd and Matt both spent a while attacking their teammates, as they didn't realize that the colors switched after each match. After the Halo, we played some more poker, and some Wesleyan people came by the house to drink and stuff. Matt left at some point, complaining about how late it was (it was like 11:30) and talking about how hardcore we were partying (we weren't).

The rest of the night is sort of a blur, but Todd claims that as we were going to sleep (he and Drew slept in my room) we played a game called "Micros Free Association," wherein he names a microer, and I say the first word that comes to mind. This quickly devolved into him saying the name of a microer and me immediately retorting "GAY!" I don't really remember this, though.

Anyway, it was a fun night. I had a great time donking around and chatting with these guys.

MoM,
Nice report. Were you able to undo the damage of the first night, or did you still get taken?

DrM,

Good stuff for round one. I won't give you lip for Miller High Life. You are an un-balla college guy who couldn't hold on to a $100 stake if it was served to him on a silver platter at Delmonico. I'll let you pass on drinking cheap beer. However,

Matt,

So true about the stake. I run miserably bad live. Though, according to DavidC, who was at my 2/4 table watching me play, I make virtually no mistakes. Edit: obviously a small sample size and stuff, I know it's not significant.

WRT the Grey Goose pear, I think Grey Goose is a pretty solid vodka. I know a lot of people think it's overrated, but I enjoy it. Drew brought the bottle, so you should ask him about the flavor choice. But I take it that vodka flavoring is against your moral principles? Basically I thought it was good. And if I have no other retort, let it be:

DON'T HATE CUZ WE BE BALLIN'! YOU KNOW THIS!

I generally take my vodka juniper flavored.

Grey Goose is not a bad vodka, and it's reasonable that people enjoy it. However, you can get still higher quality vodka for less money. At the very least, you should pay less and get comparable vodka, or you should pay the same and get better vodka.

As for the questions of whether or not you're ballin', I have yet to see evidence. So far, nickel/dime poker and Miller High Life do not add up to balla.

I went to bed Friday night intending to drive down Sat and meet the 4 folks. After 15 minutes of staring at the ceiling I'm like "how can I sleep when there's a poker game going on?" So I drove down to Woods and got there at 3am.

Played some 10-20 while waiting for a 5-10. The hottest dealer at Woods (Moriana who hasn't called me yet ) dealt me some trippin hot Kings. They lost to broadway but I am proud she saw me betting the worst while the other rock just c/called with the best hand. He also said "chop it up" when I tabled my hand. Why Moriana, could you not give him what he wanted?

Down 400 I entered the 4-8 aquarium and got it all back. The funny thing was hairy John, who posts here but in life still denies having heard of 2+2, got skinned by the guppies. I got my 400 back.

I went to the hotel Sat afternoon and met Babar and Man of Means. I was disoriented as the hotel room had healthy food in it Are you guys really poker players?

Sat night I played 5-10 for 12 hours. Card dead. But I refrained from crying out "give me a hand so I can bust these idiots" 99% of the time.

Sunday afternoon the real donkfest began. I played 5-10 and won a showdown after a mere 65 hands. I took the kiddies to Fudruckers and showed them the virtues of grease, lard, and chocolate for 10$. Then back to the 5-10 (and a bit of 5 handed 10-20).

Remember that gay porn that you just happened to watch accidentally? I was the guy slumped over the poker table:

"Hey I'm str8, cut that out. Sir, please remove your dick from my butt this instant. This is completely bad ettiquette. You're not supposed to rape people at the poker table. That's it! Call the floor over!"

Sunday night, Babar and the others tried to talk some sense into me and get me to take a break. Heh, I don't listen to logic on Sundays at Woods. I was down 1400 and playing short handed 5-10 against mostly 10-20 players. My cards came back to life and I finished only down 1150.

So it's as though I had a bad session and then made 250$ pure profit. When are we going back?

You realize I'm joking about being ballin', right? I of course know I'm not a real balla, I just enjoy joking around and pretending that my obviously un-ballin' activities are hugely ballin'.

Anyway, I see your point about Goose. Maybe I'll ask you for a recommendation next time I decide to buy one.

D,

I know you are. I guess my sarcasm isn't coming through well, either.
