125 sng at tampa hardrock. Is it beatable?
Just want to thank anyone in advance who reads this post and hope to get some good feedback. I have been reading this forum for several years and it has helped me become a moderately successful middlestakes player. I have played live with success for many years but for a while was only a break even online player. Finally with the help of your site and other instructional sites online I am a winning player. So thank you again to everyone here that contributes.
Now for the real question… I just moved to Tampa, Fl and have been playing at the HardRock in Tampa. The place is a real dump compared to the Borgota (I just moved from NJ, and played there regularly), but it’s all that is left. I have beaten all levels there from 100-1000 buyin sit and gos but have recently started something new. My sample size is way to small (<50) to know anything for sure, but I wanted to know if this would be profitable in the long run. The structure there for the smallest buyin is 125 buyin, with 95 towards prize pool, 5 towards jackpot and 25 rake. It’s extremely bad, I know. I have been teaching a friend of mine to play recently and he has begun to show progress at the 6 and 11 turbos online (15% roi over about 4000). We have been going halves on these and playing in the same SNG and doing pretty well. We do not cheat, have signs or anything of the sort, we don’t even check it down with one another (usually don’t play in the same hand either). The players here are AWFUL, I repeat, AWFUL. It plays softer than a 6sng on PP pre ban. I have seen multiple allins on first hand with nothing more than q8 high looking for “runners.” We have had great success thus far and find ourselves chopping 1-2 quite often. However, yesterday we went a total of 1 for 6. It was a third place, so we basically lost 5 buyins after tips n drinks. My main question is, is playing like this profitable? Is it more or less profitable than playing alone? I know these questions are based on our specific ROIs and games played, but say using our online avg of 15%ROI. Please voice opinions. Thank you kindly |

24% taken off the top? Ech. Play this for fun, not for profit.

there are ten players...I have played these many times and am basically break even...the rake is crazy...i dont really see how you can be a winner in the long run...you basucally have to cash 4-5 to be a good winner....i do agree with your observations that these are very soft, but with usch a huge rake, i dont see how they are that profitable...

it took me 10 mins to figure out i needed to resign in to reply. sorry about that. it's a 10 player. blinds start at 25/50 with 1500 chips.. go up every 10 hands. blinds double.. terrible structure i know

Re: 125 sng at tampa hardrock. Is it beatable?
Sounds like a total crapshoot. And even with the most donkish players in the world, you're going to have a hard time beating that rake. Plus, do you really think your ROI there is 15% better than it would be online? I highly doubt it. Overall online, you'll have a better ROI, smaller variance, and can play more than one table at a time. So just tell the casino operator to shove it.

the rake plus tips are too high.. play the higher SNGs and run good
