Default Standard or foolish?

Home casino 2-3 blinds I have A8h on the button. Folded to me I popit to 12. SB folds BB calls. Flop 5-6-7 one heart. BB checks I bet $25 BB calls. Turn is a 3h for an OESD and NFD. I push all in for $79. BB tanks and calls. Turns over 10-10 and I miss it all. Whats your thoughts here?

You said it is a home casino which I interpreted to mean a home game although you could have meant a casino in your home town.

As to your name, you are NOT that good.

You overplayed your hand... If you are the type of player to push it in with nothing but a naked draw with 1 card to come... I'd love for you to play in my game.

Not that good, kiddo.

It depends on the situation. The flat call on the flop by villian narrowed his hand range in my eyes (88-1010 was in my head) but my button raise meant to me that he could have just called with hands like KT-KQ and any ace. Realize the push on the turn was ill-advised but I really thought it would induce a fold and if I got called I still had outs. Anyway thanks for the input.

I don't think your play was particularly standard or foolish depending on how the BB plays. You're something like 33% to win outright and you're betting $80 into a $80 pot. If the BB will fold any reasonable percentage of the time, your play will show a profit. So the two questions you need to answer to figure out if your play was good or not are:

1) what hands would BB call $25 on the flop with and then fold to a pot sized bet on the turn?
2) how much would BB pay off with hands they would call $25 with if you just check the turn and hit your straight or flush on the river?

The higher #1 is, the better your play was. The higher #2 is, the worse your play was. Make sense?

Sure makes perfect sense--we had been playing for about an hour at a short table (5 handed) and he seemed tight. The flat call on the flop should have slowed me down a bit but i convinced myself that we was calling PF with a mediocre hand. Meh win some lose some! Looking back a check/call on the turn seems better.
