Fear of higher boats
Still getting a hang of playing sets and full houses. Any help on my entire line would really be appreciated here.
This is a $8 PLO8 tournament on Pokerstars. It's very early so no reads except that BB was a huge donk. Poker Stars Pot Limit Omaha H/L Tournament Blinds: t10/t20 9 players Stack sizes: UTG: t1300 UTG+1: t2770 MP1: t650 Hero: t1490 MP3: t530 CO: t1430 Button: t800 SB: t1210 BB: t3320 Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP2 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG calls t20 (pot was t30), 2 folds, Hero calls t20 (pot was t50), 2 folds, Button calls t20 (pot was t70), SB calls t10 (pot was t90), BB checks. Is this a good call pre-flop? Ideally I'm looking for scooping hands, but is this an okay high hand? Flop: 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (t100, 5 players) SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Hero checks, Button checks. I'm still getting the hang of playing 2 pair and sets on draw heavy boards. Check seemed to be the best line this early. Turn: 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (t100, 5 players) SB bets t80, BB calls t80 (pot was t180), UTG folds, Hero raises to t200, Button calls t200 (pot was t460), SB raises to t800, BB calls t720 (pot was t1380), Hero?? 1. How often does SB have 88 or QQ? 2. Is this a close situation or is there a standard play here? 3. Does my raise make sense? I was initially raising because I felt like I had the best hand and wanted to get more money in the pot if someone was drawing to a flush. But I guess I should maybe pot here to drive out the low only draws? |

Re: Fear of higher boats
fold preflop. if the 6 was a broadway or low wheel card it'd be fine.

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP2 with Q K A 6 UTG calls t20 (pot was t30), 2 folds, Hero calls t20 (pot was t50), 2 folds, Button calls t20 (pot was t70), SB calls t10 (pot was t90), BB checks. Is this a good call pre-flop? Ideally I'm looking for scooping hands, but is this an okay high hand? [/ QUOTE ] DP388 - this is a fold pre-flop. in the early phases of a tournament you should only be playing premium hands more along the lines of suited A2 and A3. in this particular hand, your ace isn't even suited. there's only a few times I'm playing your hand, and the circumstances include being late into a tournament and having a good opportunity to play heads-up or to steal the blinds. summary: main problem is that your hand has awful low potential and doesn't have a nut flush draw. As played, I think your turn raise looks fine, but I probably wouldn't go broke here in a limped pot in the beginning of a tournament. It's easy to find better spots, so lay it down. |
