Default To Chat Or Not To Chat?

Chatting in a game, what do you guys think? I find it distracting at times, but people always seem to ask me wierd things. I've started simply ignoring people altogether and not even saying nh or ty when appropriate.

I don't chat unless I strongly feel that by chatting I can make a fish tilt or stay if he was otherwise going to leave... (i.e. I don't chat :P)

Depends. It is distracting and can be a waste of time while multi-tabling, but is sometimes useful. For example, yesterday I used chat because some LAGtard with a 40BB stack was heckling me. I convinced him to buy in full, and proceeded to stack him. So in that case, chatting was very +EV.

In general, I'll just say "ty" when people are being polite. I'd like them to enjoy giving me their money. But I don't chat normally, and I rarely answer any sort of questions.

OP, stop making these stupid posts. You're just clogging the forum, learn to post in the brew or beginners forum or something

I chat- (1) I sometimes try to be obnoxious and get people to gun for me. I have definitely gotten people to call me down lightly because of it.
(2) be nice to bad players to keep them around

re #1- if people talking smack back to you effects your game, don't do #1.

I'd rather chat on MSN while I play poker...

When I chat, I find it is time to quit. If I take a bad beat by a fish chasing a draw, I'll tell him nh so he continues. But if I find myself berating him, it's a sign of tilt and I quit.
