Default getting the most

A good tag opens from MP, you defend in the BB with ATo

Flop comes AT8

What's the best line here? Usually I'd just checkraise this flop or do it on the turn but what about checkcalling the flop and bet/3betting the turn instead?

My line is usually to C'raise the flop if the board is 2 of the same suit and my ace doesn't match or if I think the PF raiser will not bet the turn once I call the flop, otherwise I call and c'raise the turn

The key item is the "good TAG" description. He should be astute enough to notice that you defended your blind from a middle position raise, so he should know you've got something worthy.

I wouldn't chance any check behinds, so I would bet/reraise the flop and lead on the turn. No sense in doing what he expects you to do (the 'ol check and raise).

Most of the good TAGs wont raise that turn or will fold for a 3 bet...his line works great for a bad TAG or even better against a agro LAG.

C/R flop. Gets the most value from KK-JJ, KT etc and induces good action from a strong ace or A8/T8. Often you can c/r flop AND bet-3bet turn AND still get called down by AK.

I'd 3-bet pre flop, too, and I'm pretty conservative with pf 3bets OOP. (Edit: NM, thought villain was in CO).

3-bet preflop? Seems like since this TAG is raising from middle position if he has an ace odds are it's better than yours. If he's got a smaller pair it's coinflip and you're not going to get much action if an ace drops. You're only ahead if he's got something like KQ, and you're not way ahead even then. Do you think you're buying enough folding equity here when your hand is probably a dog to his range?
