Default PSP vs DS

Guys,
I'm really considering getting a hand held system to help ease the boredom at work. I am not sure which one to get.

I noticed that the PSP is finally coming out with Final Fantasy games, and they also have a couple GTAs and the Prince of Persia that I would like.

But, other than that, do they have a good selection of titles in the genra's of games that I am already looking at?

Just not sure if spending the extra money for the PSP would be worth it over going Nintendo.

The DS has a much much better library than the PSP in almost every genre. The PSP can play movies; but I here that UMD support is weakening and if you have a video iPod it's a moot point anyway.

Hi there,

I'm far too old to be a fan boy! So here's my unbiased view

I really think it depends on what you plan doing with the machine. If it's just purely games, then it's down to which system has the most games you like. But if you want to consider other functions you may use the machine for:-

PSP:
-MP3 player built in
-Photo slide show facility built-in
-Web Browser (not brilliant, but OK) built in
-RSS Podcast facility built in- NOW THIS IS GOOD. It has a Timer feature that brings it out of sleep mode in the early hours, connects to your wireless netowrk and downloads your chosen list of audio / video podcasts. I use this feature every night.

-USB connectivity. Use the PSP as an external drive to your PC for backing up files, moving data between PC's etc.

-View text files, html files offline by storing them on the memory card.

PLUS:
The latest firmware update has now unleashed the FULL power (333mhz) of the processor. Previously limited to 266 I believe

PS1 library of games coming to the PSP by the end of the year.

Tons of free online magazines to download and read on the PSP.

The list just goes on.

Summary: The PSP is a very versatile multi-media device. I find it so much more than just a games console.

NOTE: I am in no way putting the DS down. I just think that they are two totally different machines for different markets.

The board has previously chimed in heavily in favor of the DS

I would say the PSP, but if you want Mario and the other Nintendo like on the go, go for it.

True, but most people are Nintendo fanboys.

That said, I have the DS and don't regret buying it over the PSP. I've had some techinical issues with mine though, like a dead pixel and the machine not recognizing the cartridge at times.

The DS has some great strategy games, if you're into that. Advance Wars, Age of Empires, Battles of Prince of Persia, plus Warlords DS and a Panzer General-type game on the way.

Some good strategy titles for the PSP too:

Field Commander
2 x MGA Acid
D&D Tactics
Loads of RPG's

I think the PSP is finally moving away from the early days of just Driving / Racing games
