Default Deliver us From Evil -Film Rreview

Deliver Us From Evil

This movie has 100% in Rotten Tomatoes and I certainly understand why. The documentary sets the evidence piece by piece perfectly to make you be outraged at the Catholic Church.

The film interviews victims of rape of father Oliver O'Grady, who was convicted in the early 90s, went to jail for seven years and now lives comfortably in Ireland with money from the Church. In the vicinity of LA there are 550 priests who are being prosecuted for child molesting and nothing is being done to archbishop Mahoney (now a cardinal).
Whenever someone would alert the Church that O'Grady was raping children, the Church would convince the families not to prosecute promising them that they would treat the matter. What they would do instead was moving the priest to another town. Why? Because if a scandal comes out, archbishop Mahoney loses his chances of becoming a cardinal.

The movie, made me feel pity for O'Grady, since I saw his actions more of a sick person than an "evil" person. While the actions of the Church seemed vile and repugnant, by not stopping their own men from their evil deeds because of their lust for power or to keep their image.

The movie has moments that make you cry, moments that make you feel outrage and moments that make you think.

A really great movie that is very tough to swallow.

I don't think that's possible.

Is this on dvd yet or did you see it in a theater? Wanted to see this as well, but can't find it playing (or using other methods) anywhere.

This sounds thoroughly depressing, but absolutely necessary viewing. Thanks for the review.
