I love this company so much, but its current valuation does not compare favorably to others in the sector like PartyGaming and Cryptologic.

For comparison, Cryptologic actually has higher trailing twelve month earnings than Gigamedia, has $110M in net cash on their balance sheet, and arguably has better short growth prospects. Yet CRYP is valued at about $320M and GIGM is valued at about $680M.

Of course, on the other hand, check out the traffic growth on Everest Poker for the past several months:

It's hard to put a valuation on them because they are growing so fast, but they are going to have phenomenal earnings for the forseeable future.

They also have a few other interesting projects in the works, like an upcoming real money online Mahjong site, a successful Taiwanese casual gaming portal, and Taiwanese distribution rights to a very promising MMO game called Hellgate:London.

For the TA fellows, this happens to be in the small universe of stocks I trade, so here's my annotated chart. Certainly okay to own right now for me, but I'd be on alert for a change in sentiment over the next few weeks.

bought GIGM at 10 and havent regretted it. Try a trial membership at motley fool's hidden gems and get a very detailed analysis of the company(as well as discussion amongst the members regarding various news).

For me personally, this stock has gone too far already. It's closing in on the resistance line of the channel. I'd hold, but wouldn't buy at this point.



Also note how Money Stream (light pink) is in a negative leading divergence. That is, price made new highs in May, Sept and Feb while MS made lower highs (It's also present in TSV, just not as noticably). Because of this I would be worried about a change in sentiment.

I remember playing party when this stock had just ipo'd and someone at my table talking about how his broker telling him to buy...I did some research and was about to make my first stock purchase on it but didn't. Seems like it could be big growth stock but also very risky type stock.

I'm completely new to investing (almost finished One Up On Wall Street, next in line is The Intelligent Investor [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]), but I'm also interested in this stock, mostly because Everest Poker is very popular in The Netherlands, where I live.

I have a few questions though. Cryptologic is going to provide internet casino and poker software for Holland Casino. (link). So, apparently Holland Casino is going to have its own online poker site. You can be sure that once they've launched it, they will be advertising for it, the same way they advertise for their casinos now.

Sooo, I don't have exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure a large percentage of Everest players are Dutch. I think these developments may be bad for Gigamedia and good for Cryptologic. I just don't know what percentage of the earnings these pokersites represent for these companies. What do you guys think?

Also, is motley fool's hidden gems good/worth it?

This company actually IPO'ed as a Taiwanese broadband provider at the height of the tech bubble in 2000. The IPO price was $27 and it traded as high as $88 on the first day of trading. People who bought at IPO got hosed bigtime, including Microsoft who was one of the original stakeholders.

It wasn't until they acquired Grand Virtual a couple years ago and developed the software for Everest Poker a little later that the business turned around.
