I guess special is an arbitrary term. Perhaps unusual would have been a better word, specifically in regards to the existence of intelligent life (unless of course you want to argue that that our universe is unique because there is so little intelligent life. If that were the case, we'd have to scrutinize Drake's Equation a bit more).

The similarities involve the fact that both groups of scientists are attacking Bible positions from the same motivation. But I'm not arguing I can prove exodus just that no one has disproved it, the issue being what it would take to turn me atheist. So they have a very heavy burden given their bias. They may well convince other atheists who may be reasonable accepting their opinion while I'm reasonable to require a heavier burden.

I will probably get back to that on another thread. But before I do I want to give you a chance to reconsider. Are you sure that you need this particular story to be literally true in all its magnitude to remain a theist?

Why Exodus and not the latter parts of Genesis (i.e. the worldwide flood). Just curious.

I’m butting in here, but I was raised to believe that either the stories in the Book of Mormon are true, or God doesn’t exist. This POV is completely rational to my parents, but completely irrational to me.
Neither of my parents would ever, ever doubt a BoM story, for to do so in their minds would be to deny God.

Feel free to do that while DS attempts exodus. One caveat: I'm currently reading a series of books, one of which will deal with the flood, but it may be a couple months before I get to it. If you want to save some time I think I will be accepting the Hugh Ross version of the flood which means it was a local flood that covered Mesopotamia. Go get'em.
