General question about how to play vs specific type of player
I need some help with adjusting my play vs a specific type of player that i see very often at party.
Correctly adjusting my play to them will improve my winrate a lot. No doubt i will make a decent profit if i refuse to play against them and target the equally common spewtards and calling stations, but i am here to improve my game, right? In brief, these players usually - c-bet tons of flops (75%+) - either double barrel very rarely (10%-) or do it 70%+ - go to showdown quite often (30-35%) - call c-bets frequently (50-65%) when in position - either fold to a second barrel or raise or c/r all-in on the turn. - don't defend their blinds (fold to steal 70%+) - don't fold to 3bets from the blinds, they LOVE to call from the button - they are generally positionally aware, but don't try to steal the blinds excessivley (20-30%) If i play a pot vs such a player, there is usually at least one weaker player involved. This creates a lot of difficult situations, particular when it i 3bet from the blinds. I'd be very happy to hear some general strategic advice from other uNL'ers about how to play vs these annoying regulars. |

[ QUOTE ]
- c-bet tons of flops (75%+) [/ QUOTE ] Never lead. Checkraise ALL your made hands, ALL your draws, and a few of your total misses. Your opponent only has a hand 30-40% of the time, so a checkraise will be immediately profitable. [ QUOTE ] - either double barrel very rarely (10%-) or do it 70%+ [/ QUOTE ] If they rarely double-barrel, feel free to call draws on the flop; you've got two cards to hit rather than just one. If they usually double-barrel, smooth-call your good and great hands on the flop and then checkraise the turn instead: snap off both bluffs, rather than just one. [ QUOTE ] - go to showdown quite often (30-35%) [/ QUOTE ] Bluff less, value bet more often. [ QUOTE ] - call c-bets frequently (50-65%) when in position [/ QUOTE ] Don't raise light preflop from OOP relative to them. Tighten up and expect more value postflop. [ QUOTE ] - either fold to a second barrel or raise or c/r all-in on the turn. [/ QUOTE ] Double-barrel frequently. It FEELS like they're pushing the turn all the time, but in reality they're folding more than half the time. Your double-barrel is going to be immediately profitable, and it will also make your two-street value bets more disguised and (therefore) more profitable. Also, check behind on the turn with your very strong draws. [ QUOTE ] - don't defend their blinds (fold to steal 70%+) [/ QUOTE ] Steal their blinds often. [ QUOTE ] - don't fold to 3bets from the blinds, they LOVE to call from the button [/ QUOTE ] Tighten up in the blinds, three-bet VERY strongly (I usually three-bet to at least 3.5 times the size of the raise from the blinds), and keep shooting. [ QUOTE ] - they are generally positionally aware, but don't try to steal the blinds excessivley (20-30%) [/ QUOTE ] Respect their LP raises. |

don't fold to 3bets from the blinds, they LOVE to call from the button [/ QUOTE ] An important point here is to open up your value 3betting range and tighten up your bluffing range. Against a tight 3bet caller, 3betting AJ and often AQ is pointless because they won't call with worse, you're essentially bluffing with a strong hand. Against someone who calls light, these raises [with AJ, AQ] can be for value, but you should cut out any 3bet pure bluffs with 56s, 87s etc. Against a tight 3bet caller, the opposite is true, I don't 3bet AJ, but i 3bet 45s all day. |
