San Diego Poker/Tourism
I am going to be in San Diego on business in early November. I would like to tack a few days on to the end of the trip to see the city and play poker. I’m looking for a card room in San Diego itself, so that I can stay in the city and play for about 8 hours a day, as well as walk around the city and see the sights in the afternoon.
All the casinos I see online and the ones that came up on my 2+2 search are about an hour away from town, and I won’t have a car while I’m there, so I don’t want this. I did find the Palomar Card Club, but the website says only 6 NL tables. Any thoughts? I would play as low as $1/2 or as high as $5/10 NL but do most of my playing at about $2/5NL. |

Re: San Diego Poker/Tourism
Palomar card room on El Cajon is the closes to downtown but is a dump. With that being said, you never wait long for a table, the 2/3 table has TON of actions. If you want a nicer place, SYCUAN is okay, but the wait for the table can get long, but they do have a free shuttle (you can take the trolley and they will pick you up). Most of the players there are a TPP, but a few maniacs do come in. (The card room calls me if a few "friends" show up).
Viejas is a nice day, the poker room is good, action is medium and transportation is fine. Plus they have other things to do if you want to stretch your legs. Pechanga has the best poker room, action is good, and has a good casino feel. If you just want to play poker, and make money go to Palomar.(Bring a good bankroll, variance is a bitch there). |

Is the area around Palomar crappy, or is it just the card room itself?

Re: San Diego Poker/Tourism
not the greatest area around....a lot of payday loans establishments and some "professionals" walking around, but it is not the 'hood or anything.

You're pretty much SOL though, unless you want to go to one of the little dump cardrooms like Palomar, Village or Lucky Lady. Public transportation is pretty cheap though if you take the T to a Viejas or Sycuan bus stop. |

Re: San Diego Poker/Tourism
The Lucky Lady near SDSU is probably the most local/close room. I think.
