Default protecting your weak hand v protecting your weak draw -- nl cash

pretty common marginal situation

read --
will draw to any two, any straght draw
when he hits he will check raise big

2/4 nl
stacks 300

i have A9. i raise to 12. he calls.

flop (24)
A57 (rainbow)
he checks. i bet 20. he calls.

turn (64)
6 (rainbow still)
he checks. i . . . bet/fold? check it back?

how do people think having a8 changes the play (if at all)?

i think with your read i would bet/fold to a check raise. with A_8 i might be inclined to play the same way. he could have made his str8, or be drawing to it still, but if a check raise comes , im thinking that u dont wanna get stacked with a hand like A_9.

This is tricky because you don't beat much. Most aces that flat call pre has you beat and so do a lot of connectors. Given your read though, I think you are good enough here to fire again on the turn. I like bet/fold much better than check and bet the river for value.

wha,

will he bluff at river if u check turn? If so then i'd be more likely to check behind turn. if he's just gonna draw and only bet for value then I think another stab of like 35 on the turn looks good with a check behind on the river if he calls turn.

unless you have caught him bluffing at all, i think b/f A9 is fine

if you have seen him make some big semibluffs etc i might be inclined to bet/call A8 and check behind A9 for fear of calling w/ worst/folding best and figure it out on the river
