Default Bluffing John Juanda when he has the nuts??

25/50 NLHE online, a three handed game with stack sizes around 5k each.

John Juanda open raises on the button with A7s for $200. Big blind, who will go unidentified and not me, calls.

Flop comes 5 8 9 rainbow.

BB checks, JJ bets 800 and bb calls.

Turn brings a 2, still rainbow, and the action is check, check.

River 5 8 9 2 6.

BB bets 2500. JJ raises all in. BB calls. It appears like the big blind had a decent hand if he called the river push.
His flop and turn play are questionable.

Commentary appreciated.

Bruce

bruce,

BB tried to get too tricky and ended up turning a big hand into a bluff-catcher but then bet-called his stack off anyway. Next hand.

I watched the hand...

The BB was Strassa and I think the flop was T 8 6 2 9

Strassa check/called flop, turn went check/check, strasses potted river and JJ moved in.

I was really curious to see know what strassa had, I guessed 99 at the time

Looked like a case of FPS against a "world class" player which backfired. I'm assuming that bb was anticipating a bet from JJ which never materialized. The river brought the worst possible card in the deck and the big blind didn't know what to do. From his perspective it's tough to put JJ on a Seven, but the turn check does suggest that JJ has little.
I don't know if there's any history between the two, but JJ may be the type of player who will bet the flop, check the turn, and then bet the river with his big hands, but on a drawish board I don't think he would get too fancy on the turn in these type of spots.

I had top set.

Anyway, I guess I probably could've folded to the all in getting like 7-1 or something. But I like to value bet all types of hands on boards like this because people are more inclined to think straight/air and look me up with all sorts of things. I figured there wasn't much use in working out a way to get away from my hand, so I just tried to maximize value when I was behind.

PS I had TTT the OP has the hand a little wrong.
