How much past the half way point is it getting?

I wouldn't even think twice about 60-65%, but around the 75% mark I would be concerned.

[/ QUOTE ]
it can get to around 60%. the thing is that before the incident, it never went past the 50% mark, not once. now it consistently does it even though just by a little bit, i might just be a worrying too much

I know I already said this, but ANYTHING past half way means it isn't work right unless you are driving the car RIDICULOUSLY hard or driving up a mountain. A little above half way and you aren't doing any damage to the engine, but it is still malfunctioning and needs to be repaired.

Wrong/different temp thermostat.
It could be that the old thermostat was set to open up at a lower temp, the new one could just be a higher temp and this is now "normal".

I'm wondering if they put a higher temperature thermostat in it than the original. That wouldn't be too serious a problem, but if they messed up on anything else it could be.

bumping crappy old thread so i don't have to start crappy new thread.

a guy is trying to sell me a '77 lincoln town car. i took it for a quick test drive and it ran fairly hot. it's been a couple weeks so I can't remember exactly, but I would guess it was about 75% up the gauge. he changed the thermo. and hoses. i called him up and asked about it and he said it was still running a little hot, but old cars and those engines (ford 460) especially typically ran a little hot without causing any problem. obv. i have a hard time believing this whether he's lying or just doesn't know any better.

i'll have another chance to look over it this weekend. is there anything my amateur/clueless ass can take a look at to get an educated guess if it's something serious like a cracked head or w/e?

they give out the award to a member of each league so that's why i had to specify AL.

i assume he was lol'ing at me because specifying AL MVP might imply that someone else in the other league was better which is a pretty LOL thought in and of itself. unfortunately there is no MVP of the world award that I am aware of so such specification is necessary.

i assumed that meaning b/c it is the only logical interpretation of his words.
