Default what are some common spelling/grammar mistakes you make?

i still have no clue what the difference is between "all right" and "alright." And it confuses me.

What's yours?

Goddamn if I could spell necessary for a long time.

I can now because I realized after 21 years of life that it starts out like "process" after having to write "necessary process" about 400 times in my MSE class.

yes! I'm finally spelling that one correctly, too.

And for the life of me, I still can't remember when to use "affect" and when to use "effect."

I thought one was correct, while one was not. No?

Someone pointed this out recently here, but I'd never noticed it: tons of posters misspell "Villain," spelling it "Villian" instead.

I use run-on sentences all the time. I never know where a comma or semi-colon goes.

Affect and effect is easy if you crack a dictionary.

I have a mental glitch with "separate." I often want to use too many e's in it. I know better, but it sometimes happens anyway. There are one or two other words like that, but they aren't as common and don't come to mind right away.

marriage/marraige is similar to the villian/villain thing.

i always want to spell 'dilemma' as 'dilemna'. i find it odd that i often see other people spell it with the 'mna' ending too even though it is not phonetic. not sure where this comes from.

Alright has traditionally not been an acceptable contraction. But now it has become so common that it's sort of okay, I guess, depending on how much of a purist you are. At least in America; I dunno about how that goes with the Brits.

It's not one of the better contractions out there, and I'd stay away from it if writing someplace that matters.
