Rep. Ellison calls the cops to snuff Tancredo’s cigar

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) believes it is his right as a Muslim to be sworn into Congress with the Quran. But apparently, the freshman lawmaker doesn’t believe it’s Rep. Tom Tancredo’s (R-Colo.) right to smoke a cigar in his congressional office.

Ellison’s office called the Capitol Hill Police on Tancredo last Wednesday night as Tancredo was in his office smoking a cigar. The lawmakers have neighboring offices on the first floor of the Longworth House Office Building.

Tancredo was still stunned a day later. “It’s very bizarre,” said Tancredo, who has never met Ellison. “Seemed to me not a good way to say hello.”

And let’s face it. Calling the cops on a colleague takes the cake for the nerviest behavior so far among members of this year’s freshman class of Congress. .......

So he didn't make the call. He didn't ask his press secretary to make the call. He merely agreed after the call was made.

Considering Tancredo's previous statements, I would expect him to call the SWAT team on Ellison.

Would this be similar to the Republican Chair calling the police because some dems were meeting in a room and he wanted them out of there?

And it seems this member of the House didn't call the cops, his aide called the building staff who directed his call to the police. Oh, and he wasn't calling about the guy smoking in his office, he was calling about the smoke coming thru the wall into his office.

sounds like the core tone of the headline is BS and it's more spin like the 757 issue, a distraction from real issues, so I'll let it go with previous expert analysis but I will go on record and say I have checked the district maps - Keith IS my representative - he is the Central Minneapolis district rep.

I gotta admit - anyone else and it's a dick move - but Tancredo - man, I'D do it just to screw with him [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I guess it just show that Rep Ellison Ellison and his staff are level headed in emergencies. If they see some smoke coming through the wall or AC, or they some some white powder in their offices, they would notify the appropriate bodies.

Of course the republicans would not be expected to act as intelligently given their history.
