Default 1/2 AK gets 4 bet

6 max stacks of 220

CO opens to 8, I make it 26 w/ AKo on the button. He 4 bets to 85. What is my standard play here v an unknown, and what circumstances might sway it?

I ended up calling, and he checked a rag flop. No point in betting here to get him off another AK, right?

I check behind, turn puts another rag on board giving me a gutshot. Just try to check it down?

I would fold preflop and keep an eye on the player for more information
but that could be a pretty weak line but to 4 bet he has qq or better so you are probably behind or only 50/50

You will probably get more serious answers if you give us the board. And how can they be rags if they give us a gutshot, unless the board is something like 245.

ya, flop 237. turn put on a 5. mainly just curious what a good default preflop should be v an unknown, and whether it is ever acceptable to bet flop or turn when checked to to try and pick up pot v another ak.

so one vote for fold, and one for shove (and calling is worst). what is standard??

Hard to say what's standard without a read.

Against a 6-max unknown, I'd shove PF... because people tend to do stupider things at 6-max as opposed to ring, and those stupider things lean towards the aggressive-with-lighter-holdings side

Don't call this 4bet, shove or fold. I'm firmly in the shoving corner

And it's worth bringing up this thought from tournament poker. I forget the article but I read it years ago from a math guy on pokerpages:

If you had 10 BB at the final table and someone who covers you shoves preflop, which would you rather have, TT or AKo, and why?

The answer is AKo by a lot, because AKo is almost always either 70/30 ahead or 50/50, and very rarely dominated. TT is sometimes 80/20 ahead, frequently 50/50, and sometimes 80/20 behind.
