Default Turningstone Report 9/7/07 - 9/9/07

So my younger brother turned 18 last week and I decided to take him and a mutual friend of ours up to Turningstone for the weekend. My thoughts of what game I would be playing were mixed. I had been playing more fixed limit cash games online as of late and hadn't played NL any more than a small 50 max cash game that I host every 2 weeks or so.

The ride there, (from CT) should take around 3.5-4 hours. Well, I ended up letting my brother drive for a little while and our friend navigate. Somehow we managed to get to the Lake Placid area and merely miles from the Canadian border...Turns out we had been going north for 2 hours when we should have been going west. Anyway, we get there at 12:30am on Saturday morning.

We checked into the room, put our stuff down, and immediately headed to the poker room. Our friend was going to hit the 100 max tables and I suggested that my brother watch him for a little while to get a feel for the game, raise sizes, looseness, etc. He wanted to play though, so he ended up hitting the 2/4 LHE table. I was in the mood to play NL as casino's always bring that rush to me. I wanted to sit 500 max, but there was no game running, not even a 300 max!!! So i ended up sitting 200 max with a full stack. Shortly on, i ended up folding a QQ to a rereraise for stacks. Villian flipped AKs, not a huge deal to me.

After reloading 100 to a full stack after an hour or so, I finally ran into some hands. One that is most memorable is the 88 that I had against a young LAG player who says he comes to TS regularly. I sat in the BB with 88 and he makes it 15 from the cutoff. 1 caller from the sb and i follow along for a flop. Flop hits 8 10 4 rainbow. SB checks, i check, cutoff continues for 25. SB folds and I flat call. Turn is a 10. I check and cutoff slows down and checks. River is a blank, i think like a 2 or something. I lead for 35, villain makes it 80 more. I can't really put him on to huge of a hand, but didnt want to stack off here, so I instacall and he instamucks in disgust with himself. He clearly had A hi at best.

From then on, I played 200 max at the same table for about 4 hours. It was a great table, probably 4k ish on the able and the players were of good variety. There was one younger guy that I became good friends with who would play loosely and aggresively, but very well. Nothing was too wreckless, he just applied pressure very well and it made for good action around the table. I ended up racking up and leaving with about 760.

I went to go check up on my brother to see how he was running. He had been up and down he said, but was up around 100 when I came to his table. All three of us decided we would probably rack up and get a nap before the 70+15 tourney in the am. Well, this never happened to say the least. I ended up buyin in 50 at my bro's table to just donk around, tilt the table a little for him. I played hands rediculously, capping K3s pre and capping flushdraw flops, usually missing and folding river. I lost 50 there and told him I was gunna let him take care of this table.

At this point it is somewhere around 7 am. The floor invites us all to a snack of free donuts and coffee which I endulged in for a few minutes. Our friend Matt had been up and down at the 100 max and was probably sitting with around 2. I told him I'd mess around with him for a while. Turns out, this table was made for me. I raaaannnnnn over the table completely. The table was FULL of scared money. You could pick them out the moment you sat. They would have nervous mannerisms that just completely left them vulnerable to being pushed out of pots. I made a 20 dollar stab at the river one time with nothing and the guy sat and tanked for about 6 minutes until the DEALER called time, lol, not even a player. He ended up calling and i instamuck and say "your good man, just testin you out."

Here's where the night gets really fun. An old degenerate, clearly a regular wearing his nylon Turningstone Resort and Casino track suit walks into the poker room. "This is [censored], no donuts, no coffe, jesus." He was about 2 hours late, what do you expect...
Anyway, he sits directly to my right and buys in for 100. The first hand he is sitting there, and he wasnt dealt in (didnt buy the button) everyone folded around to the BB. He immediately calls the floor over...
"I want a table change."
The floor asks him why and he tells them theres no action here, everyone folds. I calmly told him we'd be glad to make action for him. Floor tells him to wait a few more minutes and he finally shuts up and does.
I get dealt AK the next hand UTG. I make it 12 to go, and he was the lone caller. Flop hits Ks 10c 4c. He checks, i fire 20, he calls. Turn 7c. He checks, i fire 40 (i have the K of clubs), he mutters something then shoves for only a few more and I call him. I flip my hand over and ask him if he has me. He says "yea i got a set, no club no club." River is a 4 of diamonds and he says "not one of those sets," mucks his hand and walks to the other 100max table. lol
Moments later an asian woman sits in his seat. You can instantly tell she LOVES to gamble and will push almost ATC after hitting a flop at all. I flop the nut straight in the SB and she shoves for like 20x the pot after the table checks around. Obviously I call and she flips top pair 7 kicker. hahah, awesome.

Well it was about time to register for the tourney. I registered, then went up to the room that I paid for and didnt even use once to get my things and change, freshen up a little, etc. I went downstairs and checked out then hit the buffet for a quick breakfast. The food was outstanding, i hadnt eaten so good in months. I was now ready for the donkament and made my way to the table right as the first deal was commencing. My table was full of middle age to older men, which was odd because most of the other tables contained a lot of younger players. Table was VERY loose early. Someone would open to 300 and get 6 calls. One guy to my left would even open to 1200 when the BB was only 100. I folded QQ in a reraised pot when AKx hit. I was about half stacked at this point. I slowly built my stack by shoving in after the table would limp with AKo. I saw AKo about 5 times and shoved every one of them. I figured someone would pay me off outta frustration and sure enough I got a call from A9 at one point and stacked him. Our table broke and i moved to a table that was clearly all amateur and beginners. Blinds and antes were creeping up at this time, somewhere around 400/800 with 100 ante, and people were limping when they only had about 3k in chips. They clearly had no idea how to play MTTs or what "M" was and when you should be shoving. I Played uber aggressively from late position and stole a tooonnnn of pots. I stacked with AK again against an A3 caller too. After another move, Im sitting with 33k in chips, blinds at 600/1200 with 100 ante. I pick up AKs in the hijack, MP calls i make it 5500 to go. SB shoves for 14kish, and MP calls....I shove over the top of MP who has me covered and tell him I dont want a call. At this point, im not sure if i did or if i didnt. He eventually folds and SB shows up with A9s. Of course he donks a 9 on the flop and rakes. There no doubt in my mind if I had won that hand, I win the tourney, which was 2500 for first. The competition was so weak i could not believe it. Theres about 25 left and only final table pays. I fold for a while, occasionally picking up on a steal. I end up stacking AGAIN with 33 after floping a set when UTG'er limped with JJ..WTF?
Blinding myself out, im sitting with about 12K and the BB is 2000 at this point. Clearly getting time to shove. Soon it is hand for hand with 11 left. There is a shortstacker on the other table with 3k left, i am the second shorter with like 8. He is in the BB so I muck my hand instantly, i woulda folded KK here. Button on the other table is debating a call when the sb says to him "if you call ill check it down." Floor is called over, sb is given a penalty and his hand declared dead. Long story short, the shorstacker wins a healthy pot and now im in deep trouble in the BB with 7.5k and 3000 BB. Sweet... I pick up 24o in the BB and button shoves. I really cannot make this call and I muck. He shows AA, nh i tell him...
Next hand I am dealt KQ. Time to shove. I shove after its folded around and BB calls with K9. Aaaaand the 9 hits. Rofl... Bubbled in a damn Turningstone Donkament. I woulda rather busted in last place so I could roll the cash games again. Oh well.

I ended up sitting 500 max when it opened. The game was SOOOO LAG that I didnt even want to play it. It was so wreckless and I was kinda under rolled to be playing it. So I came back to Matts table and ended up racking like 500 again just grinding and playing a mix between TAG and LAG poker.

My brother ended up losing after he would win in the 2/4 game then blow it playing 100max and some Let it Ride.
Matt did well for himself and won about 700 as well. Can't complain, it was a successfull and fun trip. I'm looking forward to hitting Foxwoods next year when I'm actually 21.

Driving home was a treat, i had been awake for about 30 hours at this point, and had a 3.5 hour drive home. I ended up having to stop at a rest stop and taking a nap in the car for a few.

Thats all for now. Sorry if I bored you all.

Pete

i usually drive north first instead of west for two hours, just for good luck.

because moving up is good. and moving left is like going backwards
