Default Re: Getting a 2nd internet connection?

The person who set the modem and router up would be the best person to ask.

In order to eliminate the possibility that the router is causing the problem you want to run the cable from your computer directly into the modem that the internet provider provided instead of into the router. There may be some sign in information that you will need in order to plug your computer into the modem.

If the person who set this up is not available we may be able to help you, kinda doubtful, but you haven't provided some important information:
Who is the internet service provider?
Who has the account with the internet provider (they will have the sign in information that you may need)?
Do you have access to the modem?

you are connecting to a wireless router using a USB port?

this all sounds weird, but, at any rate, the #1 thing you should try first is plugging your computer directly into your internet connection if possible and seeing what results from that. If the problem goes away, it's your router setup.

Actually the #2 thing....If you're going to go that route (which IS a good suggestion) the #1 thing must be to ensure you are running a firewall. Sticking a naked windows box on the net w/o at least a NAT device like a router will get you pwned.

Meaning go buy a Cat 5 ethernet cable 10 20 30 40 50 feet - it's up to you - plug it into your ethernet jack on your computer and plug the other end into the jack on the modem - wired!!!!!
