Pre-flop: (6 players) hero is UTG+1 with A♣ K♦ UTG folds, hero raises to $0.75, CO calls, 2 folds, BB calls. Flop: 6♣ A♠ 8♥ ($2.35, 3 players) BB checks, hero bets $1.75, CO calls, BB calls. Turn: 3♣ ($7.6, 3 players) BB checks, hero bets $4.25, CO calls, BB calls. River: K♣ ($20.35, 3 players) BB checks, hero bets $9.5, CO raises to $19, BB folds, hero calls. Results: Final pot: $58.35 What should I have done differently? Should I have gotten away from this or lost less? Thanks for any input. |

the answer is no. Let me guess. He called the flop with something like q10 of clubs

check down river. you only have one pair, you want to keep the pot small. did you want a call here?

I was thinking that I had the best hand until I got reraised so I guess I did want a call (not a raise). I made a misread and put him on a weaker ace on the flop. In hindesite I absolutely agree on checking the river. Turns out he had 88 and flopped a set. |

I thought you played it played it fine... when he raised on the river I would have been skeptical of him hitting a set or even a backdoor flush, but with top two pair you have to pay to see it.

Re: 0.25 NL Holdem AK Hand
It looked like a set to me. I agree with everything except for the river bet. After you bet both the flop and the turn and got called with no strong draws out there, I would suspect a set or Top pair worse kicker. Since there were three players involved, the set was able to disguise his hand and let you do the betting for him. You built up a pot that would be hard to get away from. There was no reason for him to bet and scare the BB away. He got lucky and played it well. However, I would just check the river and see how cheaply you could get to a showdown. With two guys calling when you raised preflop and then made a bet on each street, somebody has to have you beat with at least 2 pair IMO.
