thanks to those of you who gave real replies, i think the best play here will be attempting to pay the debt back month to month.

Should I be proactive and contact them about paying back or wait for something more concrete than an angry phone call? Also, they never give me any contact info for them.

I am also a debt collector. It sounds like a third party agency to me. If this is the case they will ALMOST NEVER take any legal recourse, especially since you have no assets to go after.

It may show up on your credit report but I personally feel there is nothing to worry about(except for your conscious and credit score). They will notify you in writing if they plan to take legal action. Then you can begin to worry.
