Would you rather play Omar Vizquel or Albert Pujols at shortstop?
Let's say you can sign one free agent for your baseball team, but for some reason you must play that player at shortstop.
You can either choose a player who is one of the top five hitters in the majors but has basically no fielding skills (e.g. Albert Pujols), or an amazing defensive shortstop who is basically an average hitter for his position (e.g. Omar Vizquel). Assume the costs are equal. Who do you choose and how do you make this decision?

As good a defender as Pujols is, he would be an embarrassment at shortstop.

How is this close? Pujols by a mile. Pujols could be the worst defender in the MLB, worse than Michael Young and old Alfonso Soriano level, and still be one of the most valuable players in baseball.

[/ QUOTE ] I could be wrong...I don't really know how good a fielder Pujols is. I usually assume hulking sluggers playing 1B are poor fielders, especially in the NL. So would you choose Pujols over Vizquel but Vizquel over Manny?

Wouldn't Pujols' (runs created + runs saved at SS) be way more than Vizquels?
