How did you personally arrive at the point where you could put consciously your opponent on a range on every hand? Is it just practice, maybe playing fewer tables some of the time and watching every hand as well?

Is the next step being able to do it subconsciously?

[/ QUOTE ]

This all just takes practice. Doing it often during post-analysis will help out while in the hand as well. I can't comment too much on the subconscious part. I believe that the vast majority of my thought process during hands is performed subconsciously, but I do not have a good enough understanding of the subject to be able to describe and quantify it. Search for the post ZeeJustin made about this.

[ QUOTE ]
do you really list all those hands in your head?

[/ QUOTE ]

Sometimes, yes, but not always. The way I described his range on the turn is more likely how I think about a villain's range during a hand. You can usually estimate the frequency of each type of hand as well. This generally comes with experience, understanding card combinations, and working with pokerstove. For a simple example, I may think "His range here is 60% flush/straight/combo draws, 30% 2 pairs/sets, and 10% pure bluffs."

This is an awesome post, tyvm.

...but I have to be a nit. You say re. the river action "He is most likely not calling 3 barrels with 22-55" - but 22 hit a set on the turn. so it should be 33-55.

Oh God I feel so dirty please forgive me... why won't this dirt rub off...

No prob, I am a detail nit too! My bad -- I originally had the turn card as a K, but I changed it part way through.

joining the nit parade - did you mean spade draws, not diamond draws.

Thanks for elucidating on "in the moment" hand range analysis betting. I said just yesterday this is one of my weaknesses.

If I let that info out of the bag, the game would never be the same. Maybe if I open my own training site
