I don't know where you're from, but how much did location factor into your decision of choosing which school to go to?

You got money from a lot of places, where was location ranked in determining which school to attend?

I ask because location of law schools, especially the non-top tier ones, is important because of the connections around the area. Where one goes to law school is usually where they are located for a couple years after graduation.

[/ QUOTE ]

Location was actually a pretty significant factor for me, because there are certain schools that place better. I was talking to someone from Phoenix biglaw and they said that they get most of their students from ASU, firms in Boston are largely Harvard/BC/BU, and schools like Brooklyn don't carry much weight outside NY, but place very respectably in the city.

There are some cities that seem to care about this more than others. Lots of interviewers will harp on the "why city X" questions. In addition, if you go to a school in the same city as the law firm, they will most likely have OCI (On campus interviewing) which makes things a lot easier, and you will likely be dealing with a lot of people from your same school.

I know that I've e-mailed with many people that went to my same law school and undergrad for advice and info on firms, and its been a very positive experience.

I wouldn't say it is as important as rank, maybe a couple notches, but when schools are similarly ranked or when you start involving money, its definitely an important factor to consider. If you don't know where you want to practice just yet, then go to the most nationally prominent school.

I referred to myself as a sucker, so I guess i do see why?

Also, there are firms where you can work 55 hours a week and get paid market/near market. That's 9-7, M-F and some work on the weekend or a late night or two. Fine by me.

Ohh I saw you recommend this in a previous thread, I think I'm gonna pick this up.

Also, I read "Getting to Maybe" and found it decent. 1L, Law School Confidential, etc. There are tons of books out there, might be interesting, most are quick reads or flip throughs.

In addition, let me now say, please do not take any "pre-Law School" courses. This is 100% unnecessary. Also, don't bother trying to read up on cases and whatnot now. Enjoy your summer. Take extra days off work. Hang out with friends. Relax.

Hey Noah

Cool thread.

I'm applying for Fall 2008, and there's a Law School Forum in my area tomorrow. Worth going to, or waste of time?

I never went to one and since admissions is so anonymous, unless you want to learn about some schools, I don't see the point. Feel free though, I really don't even know much about them.

Thanks. No one I've talked to ever went to one, so I'm not going to worry about it.
