New MSNBC story:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21381022/

The interesting part, supposedly from an Absolute spokesperson:

[ QUOTE ]

The cheater made no attempt to make off with his illegitimate winnings — estimated at between $400,000 and $700,000 by one victim — but was an employee of AbsolutePoker.com who hacked the system to show that it could be done, said a spokesman for the company, who spoke with msnbc.com on condition of anonymity.

“This is literally a geek trying to prove to senior management that they were wrong and he took it too far,” he said.

This is kinda ridiculous, let's see their proof for this.

On the one hand, this is very hard to swallow. Elaborate frames and set-ups are common in movies, not so common in real life. On the other hand, it's hard for me to believe that Absolute would tell bald-faced lies at this point. They have so many internal sources leaking at this point that they can't really expect to get away with it.

My guess: I think Nat or Serge will be able to confirm/disconfirm shortly. Best to withhold judgement until then.

This was a surprisingly well written story.

Yea. People, read the whole thing before getting pissy. MSNBC provides a surprisingly fair level of coverage.

This was a surprisingly well written story, I really thought the mass media would butcher this.

Thank Michael Brunker, the reporter. He's been working with me on this story for days and has been very understanding of the situation.

Yeah, I certainly agree with you. Somebody never wanted to get their money out, only prove it could be done? It took a month for them to come up with this and only after it was obvious it wasn't going away.

Yeah I guess the huge chip dumping was just to "show it could be done" too.

Did I read that right. Are we to believe it went down something like this:

Management: Our softwear is rock solid and cannot be hacked

Geek Programmer: oh yes it can

Management: shut up, your a geek. Our software is da shiznit.

Programmer: I'll show you . . . .

Well, they said pretty much what we all anticipated they would...question is, can it be disproven in part or whole?
