Re: What political opinion did/do youre parents have?
Mom is a neocon christian. Part of the 25% that still supports Bush.
Dad is mostly apathetic but when talking about politics is pretty much a moderate. For instance he agrees now that we should have never went to Iraq but thinks it would be bad to leave now. I guess I identify with my grandparents on my moms side the most who voted for Goldwater back in the day, even though they think he was going senial in the '80s when he showed his socially liberal positions. My grandparents on my dads side are both very liberal democrats and Christians even though they always hated Bush. |

How do you talk to your neocon parent. I just sorta let me Dad ramble and nod my head hoping he'll just drop the whole thing.

Re: What political opinion did/do youre parents have?
My mother is a typical Democrat. My late father was a staunch socialist.
I, of course, am a libertarian. |

Re: What political opinion did/do youre parents have?
Dad: I barely know him, he is probably a liberal. During the one time that I met him he mentioned something about how I am going to have to learn spanish because of all the mexicans coming to america. He was born and raised in australia fyi and has been to America a bunch of times and appeared to be politically aware.
Step Dad: A conservative who believes in a lot of personal freedoms. He was born and raised in Wyoming and so gun laws and small government are important to him. I have liberaled him up really good since he married my mom. Mom: Bleeding heart liberal. Makes a lot of money at her work and still wants to be taxed out her ass. She also said she would go to an anti-war protest in Chicago with me. =D Me: Well I am a pretty liberal hippie who looks and acts the straight role in my every day life. |

Re: What political opinion did/do youre parents have?
My parents are pretty logically minded so I can usually convince them that intervention and coercion is a bad idea when we're talking about any specific issue, but they're way too indoctrinated in two-party politics to call themselves anything but a democrat or republican (mom and dad respectively).

Re: What political opinion did/do youre parents have?
My parents are both very leftist. My dad has voted for Nader in the last few elections. They use different voting strategies though. My dad votes purely on principles, my mom votes for whoever gets the dem nomination. I remember my mom being pissed off at my dad for voting for Nader instead of Gore. My dad said he refused to vote for Gore because Gore supported privatized prisons.
I remember a few times my dad saying things implying he felt that private property is wrong and shouldn't exist. He loves making fun of yuppies who complain about high property taxes. My dad goes to every anti-war march in the Chicago area. He also volunteers at several leftist human rights and fair trade type organizations. My brother worships Karl Marx. All three of them believe the mainstream media is heavily slanted towards conservatives. If they knew I was planning on voting for Ron Paul, they might have a heart attack. Libertarians are all kooks! I don't really want to put a label on myself. Partly because I haven't done that much research into some issues, and partly because I hate labels. Edit: Also, my grandmother on my mom's side, about 2 days after 9/11 said "Bush probably planned the whole thing." She didn't even have internet access and couldn't possibly have heard any conspiracy theories from anyone else. |

I'm a weird brand of socialist that doesn't play nice with other socialists. [/ QUOTE ] In what ways do you disagree with most socialists? |

Re: What political opinion did/do youre parents have?
Dad: Conservative... a very pro status quo guy. Listens to Rush.
Mom: Switches all the time. She's religious so she voted for Bush the past two terms. Voted for Clinton in '96 and Perot in '92... not sure what that means. |
