Just wondering what the max buy in is for 1/2 NL at the Taj? Is it $300?

That is correct. Minimum: $60, Maximum: $300.

This is the standard for 1/2NL at all Atlantic City casinos.

Last time I was at Bally's the 1/2 NL games were $50 - $200. Admittedly that was probably early to mid summer time.
