this all depends on his status and the level where he will be hired/the amt of money he will be making. If he's just out of school and will be starting at an entery level then asking for the ticket is retarded. if he is being hired for some senior position then it's fine.

[/ QUOTE ] As with any recruiting procedures it depends on who you're interacting with. FWIW the department my buddy was interviewing hires about 100% out of college and is run by kids just a couple years out of college, so it was pretty common situation. I don't know if it's standard for them to accept to pay for anyone to come along, or if it's a case by case thing. I guess the overwhelming conscensus here is it's safe to not ask, but even still I'd call HR without identifying myself in case it is standard. Obviously a worse idea if this is a small company and you are one of a few candidates and they might know who you are, or if HR talks to the recruiters. Either way he should wear a suit.

Of course pay for the girlfriend's flight yourself. If I was hiring, I would only hire someone who asked his girlfriend to be reimbursed for posts such as cost-cutter or bean-counter. Basically if I wanted a supernit.

Girlfriend's opinion shouldn't matter if the job is good. Dude should probably go on his own and decide for himself whether or not he likes it. Especially if they're going to live together and she's not going to work.
