Default University of Maryland or Fordham University

I will be transfering into one of these schools. I will be going into my third year and prob won't finish for another 2 1/2 - 3 years.

I will be majoring in Communication/Journalism.

Fordham has the location right next to Manhattan, but would live off campus in the Bronx.

Maryland has on or off campus housing and has a serious college campus. Also close to D.C. and has solid football/basketball teams which is awsome because I'm a huge sports fanatic.

Party life: at Maryland is more of the college house party and bars in College Park? Fordham basically just bars around the Bronx and trips into Manhattan?

Internships at both seem like they are solid.

At Maryland I would be further away, about 3 1/2 hours away, where Fordham is about an hour.

Tuition situation basically equals out.

I'm just looking for any thoughts on either school, if you went there, go there, have friends there..etc.

I'm going to be a junior at UMD and absolutely love it. The Journalism school is really good, communications is also decent, both are LEP (Limited-Enrollment-Programs).

The scene at Maryland = mostly bars and occasional house parties. Rush week is obviously huge and you can go to pretty much any party, outside of that the bars are pretty big.

Sports are awesome. Tailgating for football is sweet and the experience at Comcast Center for basketball games is nearly unmatched.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Good Luck.

Go with Maryland a big school but for your major(s) has good programs and a lot to offer (sports, DC, etc.). Plus so many from NY and NJ are down here anyways...you might as well join them

Going to an out-of-state public school has always just seemed like a big waste of money to me. But, Maryland does have a good journalism program, so if you're sure that's what you want to do it's not a bad place to go (I graduated from UMCP with a journalism degree in 2003, so feel free to PM me with any specific questions you have).
