For a week or so in August I'll be in the New York City area and also around Gaithersburg, MD. Is there anywhere I can find bricks and mortar micro/low stakes NLHE? I've only ever played online so some advice would also be appreciated.

You won't find lower than 1/2 NL or 2/4 LHE in AC. I can't say for certain, but I imagine you won't find limits lower than this anywhere in a regular casino.

I'll give you the short version for B&M newbieness though:

1) Expect the opening raises to be a lot more, usually like $15. Online, you're probably used to about half of that. It's normal.

2) Leave the sunglasses and hat at home, or you'll look like a guy who's never played 1/2 before, or a douche, and you don't want to look like either

2a) In fact, forget all the Hollywood TV crap with the staredowns and speeches, and calling the clock and everything like that.

3) TYPICALLY: White chips are $1, red are $5, and green are $25

4) Tip but don't overdo it. A buck for a $15+ pot is normal, don't really worry about it if less than that. If it's a big pot, you can add a buck, maybe two if you want, but it's optional. Take care of your waitress also.

5) Try to keep up - your chair isn't going to light up when it's your turn.

EDIT:

6) IMPORTANT! Announce you action before you do it since you're new. If you want to raise to, say, $30, say it before you even touch your chips. In case you make a mistake in how you bring out your chips, what you said will be binding. Once you bring chips forward it's usually binding, and you might make a mistake like this by bringing out too many or the wrong color or something.

For tourneys the chips are higher denom, and remember there's some variation place to place, but here's the standard:

green = $25
black or dark grey = $100
purple, maybe blue or dark reddish = $500
orange, maybe yellow = $1,000
light grey = $5,000
