I think you guys will have a lot more fun and consistency if, instead of "shaking" the nunchuck, you swipe it to one side. That's enough of a movement for it to perform the spin attack, it's much less frustrating (because it registers quicker and more definitively than shaking does if you're not shaking far out enough), and it will probably make you less tense, too. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly, but if just swiping to one side doesn't work, just swipe back right away. But if I remember right, swiping to one side does work if you just swipe a reasonable distance (half a foot ish?).
