Default NYC health department seeks ban on yumminess

CNN web page
[ QUOTE ]

NEW YORK (AP) -- Three years after the city banned smoking in restaurants, health officials are talking about prohibiting something they say is almost as bad: artificial trans fatty acids.

The city health department unveiled a proposal Tuesday that would bar cooks at any of the city's 24,600 food service establishments from using ingredients that contain the artery-clogging substance, commonly listed on food labels as partially hydrogenated oil.

Retarded. Smoking is addictive, eating is not, and that makes all the difference.

This seems like a city government overstepping it's bounds.

Banning smoking was overstepping their bounds too. But they got away with it. (Note: I have never smoked a cigarette in my life and never intend on smoking one.)

Also, smoking actually harms other people who happen to be nearby. The only way trans fat can harm someone else is if they get between me and my food.

No one is banning eating. And chefs disagree whether or not people will be able to taste any difference in the food if the ban is carried out.

How is perception of taste relevant at all to legislating what I can put in my body and what I can't?

This has no bearing on anything. I can ALMOST understand the smoking ban, although I completely disagree with it, anyone who supports this is a commie.

No one is stopping you from putting anything in your body. This is just another one of a bazillion health regulations governing restaurants.
