Default Pivotal 5r PLO MTT hand I\'ve been wondering about

Poker Stars
Pot Limit Omaha Tournament
Blinds: t150/t300
6 players
Converter

Stack sizes:
UTG: t16140
UTG+1: t34425
CO: t14475
Button: t7280
SB: t3900
Hero: t26860

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is BB with 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
UTG folds, UTG+1 raises to t1050, 3 folds, Hero calls t750 (pot was t1500).

Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (t2250, 2 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 checks.

Turn: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (t2250, 2 players)
Hero bets t1200, UTG+1 raises to t5850, Hero calls t4650 (pot was t9300).

River: 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (t13950, 2 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets t6300, Hero raises all-in t19960, UTG+1 folds.
Uncalled bets: t13660 returned to Hero.

Results:
Final pot: t26550

Opponent read: Had gotten to table 3, 4 orbits ago, trying to run over the table.

Thoughts on the river repop? Post-hand, he slowed down at least when there was a chance I was gonna be in the hand.

Turn was an attempt to slow him down, build a manageable river pot I'd probably have c/f if I whiffed.

I was gonna pull this on most rivers way it went, but debating whether this is actually a good move with low trips?

Still relatively new to PLO but enjoying it.

Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't have called on the turn. You only have three clean outs. And, you're out of position against the table chip leader.

Your c/r on the river was a bluff. You may have gotten him to lay down the best hand. He's not calling with a worse one. I might check/call here, if UTG+1 is a maniac. Or I would lead out and fold if raised.

Only reason I made the turn call was to set up a river play, yes, a bluff.

His play was pretty close to maniacal and I didn't think his hand had much value after flop check and turn raise. Wasn't gonna lead that river as that's a weak hand.

I like a check-call more than I like a lead-fold, because this particular opponent was capable of taking opponents off pots. I'd been pretty tight the last few orbits too.

Anyway, thanks.

I think you are trying too hard to make a move, find a spot where it comes more naturally.

Had that feel to it, figured I had a decent chance with the paired flush board of getting him to fold. Read was that he was wide aggro. I'm not gonna beat this one until it turns into glue tho. It worked, was curious how thin it had to be to.

DrMagic:

I realized there was an opportunity to take away the pot on river once he raised turn. I took it.

The quality of play in this MTT wasn't impressive, and I'd been playing mainly ABC up to this point. And thousands of MTT's later, I do seem to have picked up an initutive feel for weakness in tournament situations. As far as how this translates to PLO... I'm figuring that out. (NLHE suddenly became a lot more boring.)

Would I do this in cash? Not likely. The dynamics are far different. As always, here to learn, and I've been doing more lurking than commenting. <wry grin>

Again, thanks for the comments.
