Default $50 NL - AK on the button

I'm a tournament player, trying to learn how to play cash.

this hand was an early hand. Stacks are about $50 each. I am dealt AK on the button. CO makes a standard 4X bb raise. I make a standard reraise. The blinds fold, CO pushes all in.

In the donk tournaments that I play, this is an easy call, as AQ, AJ or even worse is in the CO's range (the donks usually think you are making a move in LP -- they rarely give you credit for a hand). For cash, I didn't know. Call or fold? I imagine there is a standard answer -- I just don't know what it is.

mmmm, well at best your a coinflip with some premium pocket pair, worst case he actually is doing this with KK or AA. Even with the occasional split with AK or whatever you really otta just fold.

Getting 2:1 on your money, he needs to show up with AA, KK less than 40% of the time here to make this +EV call. Unless you have a very good read, I think this is probably around 60-70% likely AA or KK (you have only 19% equity against these 2 hands if they show up equally), most of everything else will be AK, QQ, JJ which you slightly less than even equity against.

Fold.

no
even if you are right and this is never AA or KK then your call is only about break even.
if this is ever AA or KK, then your loosing money. In absence of reads fold.

Really? 60-70% chance he has AA or KK? I doubt that high. From my experience, it is almost never AA KK esp given you already hold one of each.

Hehe...

Fold.

The best time to go all in with ako is OOP because you dont want to play a flop with it OOP (and you hopefully get other aks to fold with a 4bet). Not so much calling all in

Assuming that you raised to about $7, then you should be getting about 1.36:1, which corresponds to needing 42% equity.

Against just QQ+,AK you have 43% equity so if you think thats a suitable range and if you think you someitmes see a crazy Aq or AJ then it's a call.

Djeorge, what likelihood are you assigning to each hand in your equity calculations?
