I got $5, and lost on when my opponent rolled two double sixes in a row, towards the end.

Bad beat.

I assume that once the bonus is cleared - you can use the money on any Party game (i.e. NOT backgammon). Correct?

You can CHEAT as many do.
Google for Backgammon free open source GNU bla bla program that also has analysis - there is one, I'm sure.
Once you get it learn to use it so next time you play use GNU's analysis engine in real-time to determine the best move. It's like playing chess with chess engine doing evaluation of possible moves in the background.
I've seen people talking about this.
But of course this is CHEATING. And of course you won't be the only one.

Far fewer people cheat than you might imagine, and it is relatively easy to test whether your opponents are cheating. If you get caught, you run the risk of having your balance confiscated, which has happend to many cheaters in the past.

For this risk, what hourly rate do you think you would make?

This is a lot like saying that everyone must be colluding in online poker because it would be possible using a cell phone or messenger. Actually, it's much easier to check whether someone is cheating in backgammon, but it's pretty easy to see that most poker players are not cheating, either.

"Sure" means you are speculating. Does that mean we should trust what you say more, or less than what actual experienced backgammon players like 2-time world champ and 2+2 author Bill Robertie say?

You've seen people talk. Do you know enough about backgammon to tell whether the people talking were cluelessly speculating or had some real information?

I've seen two opponents cheat, but that is only two out of thousands of my matches and sessions. I check almost of my online money play, as do many other players, since the same analysis that tells me whether I played well tells me whether my opponent used a bot in the way you suggest.

I agree it's easy to figure out: he always takes a long pause before making a move - it takes time to import new position into analyser and do the analysis.

I can't really remember at which forum did I actually see that but people were discussing about using GNU Backgammon, Jellyfish to analyze positions in real time as easy way to beat average Joe. No one said "I did it!", but ...

Oh, I do know a lot about backgammon. Played it for years (only in real life) with friends, studied the game thoroughly and really enjoy it. And when the game started to spread over net to be played for real money I was really delighted. And then ... BAM! Analysis engines - one click away, people talking about cheating (which is practically really easy to do) ... maybe I'm just paranoic, but after seeing all that I never gave it a try and didn't play a single match (online).

Of course this means you're right and if you say so ("Far fewer people cheat than you might imagine") I can't oppose.

In order not to speculate I found it: GNU Backgammon
It's free, excellent and has very strong engine - almost as good as commercial Jellyfish

That's one way, but there are more reliable methods for detecting cheating. See the past discussions.

In discussion after discussion, people who don't play online keep saying what happens online over the objections of people who actually do play online.

I don't appreciate your suggestion that players should cheat to clear this bonus, just because you imagine that cheating is so common that it is acceptable. It is neither common nor acceptable. In fact, it's quite dangerous.

A far better, honest idea would be for 2+2ers who have no idea how to play backgammon to challenge each other. Someone will win, with no cheating, except by the occasional person who only pretends not to know how to play. There would be no risk of losing your balance and getting barred from Party.

You missed my point, and gnubg is significantly stronger than Jellyfish. I'm not saying that strong software doesn't exist. I'm saying that

[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] You are just guessing about a lot of things, such as how hard it is to cheat. (Btw, there was a GammonVillage article where the author tried, on a play money server.)

[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Cheating is neither as easy nor as common as you imagine.

[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] It is inappropriate to suggest that someone cheat to clear a bonus, and it's bad advice.
