Preface, Im not an expert by any means, Im sure there are a lot of people who know way more, but Im in the market for a new bigscreen, and have been researching. Everything I have come across article-wise says pretty much the same as this:

Plasmas give you more bang for your buck at the big end of town, and while LCDs can give you better resolution, the price difference is currently too wide. However, if money's not an issue and you want the sharpest image in town, then a large LCD is for you. At the smaller end of things (15" to 36" TVs), LCD is the only way to go if you want something slim and tasteful. And the best thing is that LCDs are getting cheaper all the time

Think about the long run and get the black leather couch found at most Pier 1 imports stores (sorry, couldn't find pics). It is very comfortable and very tasteful. I believe it's about $1000. However, between frequent sales and the Pier 1 credit card 10% discount, you should be able to save a few bucks. They have a matching chair and ottoman, as well.

You could be a noob and get a reclining couch with cup holders and all that crap. Eventually, though, you will realize that you are the unfortunate pwn3r of a tacky eyesore.

Whatever you do, get black leather. Easy to clean (nut sweat, ass sweat, jizz, dudes farting and chicks squriting makes cloth an unattractive choice) and it is always in style.

Find 3 seat black leather couch with good padding for $500. Purchase it and put it in your house.

i have 2 black bass leather idea couches. leather is dyed through, not just the surface. one regular, one love seat. extremely comfortable. the pair was like $1600.
