Showing up early to play works great in Limit but in NL you can be at a big disadvantage because when you get a limited buy in (say $200) and there are several huge stacks at the table you will be a clear target to get bullied and pushed around unless you know how to play a short stack well.

My experience is about the same as yours. Between 4-8 am, no more money is coming into play. There's no list and no rebuys. Everybody who won big is gone. Everybody who's still there is just hoping to get even and get out.
