Default the river donk

live 30
villain here i have never seen before. it should be noted that he wears his sunglasses on his head, but he pulls them down into the battle position when in a hand. this likely is affecting my play, because all i can think about when looking at him is dismembering him.

he raises UTG, folds to me in LP and I 3bet A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], massive jackass in the BB calls, UTG calls.

3 to the flop of J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
checks to me, i bet, they both calls.

turn:2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
check, check, i bet, bb folds, UTG calls.

river: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
UTG now donks, I.........

I think the point Bob is making is that a lot of the time, this "hand that beats us" is a weak pair that will fold to a raise often enough for Bob's 2BB bluff investment to be profitable.

I don't know if I agree, but he might play a flush draw faster than he did, so there's an argument to be made that villain is weak on this river. Of course, the straight draw came in too. So I would probably fold -- but I think at least *considering* a raise is correct, especially if battle position shades dude is the type to checkraise rivers when he hits his hand (as most pricks like this are).

Most sunglass wearing guys are not folding for one more bet when they donk the river. How long have the 2 of you been in the game? What other traits did he have?

Well, I think raising the river is better than calling it, at least.

imo call>fold>raise, getting 9:1 i dont toss this against sunglasses
for those advocating raise, i think the sunglass manipulating type wont be bet/folding because they tend to think others are putting moves on (like they have seen on tv) - i dont think he is the type that will turn 77 into a bluff hand on that river... i expect on this board a weak pair tries to pick off a bluff from A-high, he may be trying to get value while using the dangerous board to prevent higher pp from popping it... but i think this is unlikely... since people who think sunglasses are necessary when they play at canterbury limit tables arent experienced enough to use this type of play (imo) - if he bets he calls if he has you beat, i think calling accomplishes the same raising does in this case
