I have seen this multiple times posted through out the forums

I had the same problem as well...

To the best of my recollection, I have not seen a fix.

I have a similar problem.

Here's what I have found. If the volume is turned on and I turn it off (via the Windows Mute functionality), like when I get a phone call, it will not return until I re-boot. I have also not found a work-around, other than dragging the volume slider down to zero (instead of clicking the mute button).

I do notice a pronounced "pop" through my speakers when I initially click the Mute button. To me , this tells me that I am screwed (for sound), until I re-boot.

Just an observation.
