Re: Uncomfortable carrying large sums of money...please help
I admit I am being paranoid. I don't think nittiness or testosterone has anything to do with it though - this is a serious amount of money to me - $2000 is almost my takehome pay for a month at my regular job. And I have to admit I have done stupid careless things - one time a few years ago I dropped my wallet in the middle of a casino floor in AC and walked about 20 feet away without noticing I had done it, only to be given it back by a member of the cleaning staff.
Now I keep better control over my wallet obviously, and it is not when I am in the casino that I worry, but other times on my trip, when I am out walking around town, driving around a city, etc. Does anyone feel comfortable leaving several thousand dollars in a low rent motel room (one without a safe)? |

Why don't casinos band together to create a sort of large-sum bearer note that they would all honor and exchange for cash, so that it would be much easier to carry around and hide on your person? [/ QUOTE ] In the US, private currency is illegal. It's probably illegal in other countries too. Governments suck yo. |

[ QUOTE ] Is this not a legitimate concern? I guess the ankle wallet is a thought, I have never even heard of that before though. [/ QUOTE ] Its not a legitimate concern because nobody else except for you knows you have a large sum of money on your body, unless you were followed from the poker room ala Greg Raymer... [/ QUOTE ] Well then, you might as well lock thread. Btw TT, your answer leans towards contradiction. |

Re: Uncomfortable carrying large sums of money...please help
I was the same way for the first few times I went to casinos. It goes away with time. When I first started, I'd make sure my money clip was in my pocket still every 5 steps it seemed.
Like TT said, unless you scream 'I have a thousand dollars' nobody will know. Your chances of getting robbed are the same as they were if you only had a dollar. Just don't flash it and go about your business. |

Re: Uncomfortable carrying large sums of money...please help
Your question has nothing to do with whatever money is or isn't in your wallet, it's about learning how to live life without your head up your ass.
Pay attention to your surroundings and don't be stupid, and you'll be fine. |

Re: Uncomfortable carrying large sums of money...please help
Of course it is a legitimate concern. The kid is not yet used to carrying around what to him is a large sum of money. (What the low lives who hang around the casinos aren’t interested in “only” 2k?)
Chillrob, like others have said just don’t flash the cash and be nonchalantly aware of your surroundings. If you ever feel uncomfortable leaving the poker room just ask a security guard to walk you to your car. (Don’t tell him how much money you have on you – it isn’t a whole lot relative to some folk.) Just say I have some cash on me and would like an escort to my car. Hopefully, you will build your roll to the point when 2k isn’t a lot of cash. Eventually, you will get used to dealing with whatever cash you have. Good luck. |

Grow a pair, and deal with it. [/ QUOTE ] Ah, but it did happen. And most players would probably prefer not to put themselves at risk for robbery. Bottom line, anyone can watch you cashout, and have a pretty good idea how much money you have. I'd grow balls, TT, but as a 5'3", 110 lb woman, think I will pass. To the OP, check out travel sites like TravelSmith or Magellan's. They have a selection of money belts, and thin cloth wallets that can be pinned inside the waistband of your pants and tucked inside. This doesn't solve the problem of being scoped out at the Cashier, but it may allow you to feel more comfortable carrying your money from casino to casino. Be aware of who is around you when you cash out, pay attention if someone seems to be following you. Casinos do have security, and one can always request a security escort. |
