Raising the flop makes this hand much easier to play.

Well, if something is difficult to play, the chance of playing it wrong is greater. If something is easy to play, you'll more likely make the right decisions. Making the right decisions is what poker is about, and by gaining information you improve your abilities of making the best decisions.

Also, raising on flop is cheaper than calling turn and river bet if you're beat (of course you fold to a re-raise), and you avoid being sucked out.

Therefore I really can't see why it's not right to raise when you don't know where your hand stands.

Flop raise is okay if you think villain will slow down. If he is the sort of villain who will put you on AK and stack of TP then it's probably not too smart.

I felt completely paralyzed in this hand.

I'm raising for value against his donk bet range not information. Donk leads are usually marginal hand/scared hand looking to see where they are at.

Well his donkbet range on this type of board is going to include sets and two pair hands as well, but also plenty of draws, which makes raising proper IMO.
