Default Windsor

I'm going to be up in Windsor Canada for a weekend in the near future.

Any suggestions on where to go poker wise? Otherwise?

Coming from the US east coast (ie not driving)--best way to get there? Fly into Toronto and down? Fly into Detroit and go over (how w/o car? Rental maybe)?

Any other comments appreciated

Disclaimer: I haven't been to Windsor in the past year+

I don't know of anywhere to play other than the Windsor Casino. The poker was pretty nice when I was there and supposedly they've upgraded and started giving comps. They don't play very high limit poker (I think 10/20 Canadian round by round was the highest). I'm not sure but I'm guessing they play higher stakes NL.

Flying into Detroit seems like it would be much much faster than flying into Toronto. I'm not sure, but it seems like the Windsor Casino (or at least the Windsor Casino Hotel) should run a shuttle to the Detroit Airport but they might not with the border crossing and bridge/tunnel fee.

I played at Casino Windsor in March. They were recently bought by Harrah's and are going to be on their comp system in June. The whole place is in the process of getting a facelift to look like Caesar's. It's mostly done.

Their poker room looks like it was formerly a ballroom on the second floor (away from most of the other gambling) with one of those movable walls. Probably has 16 tables or so.

I played 12NL, which has a capped buyin of $100. If you buyin with USD, you actually get like 113 CAD with the exchange rate which helps. The game wasn't that tough.

There are 3 other casinos across the river in Detroit, but I'm not sure how they are. There are several posts about them in B&M, so search if interested.

If you fly into detroit its about a 45 min trip.Toronto is a 4 hr trip to windsor.Windsor casino offers low limit game MON-THURS. FRI-SAT they have 10-20nl. Detroit has two casinos that spread almost everything but it has slowed down but you can get a 10-20nl game at motor city which is about a 10 min drive from windsor. If youre croosing the border make sure you have a passport or birth certifacit. GOOD LUCK

Berge, I used to play at Windsor pretty regularly... and a few other FR NL players from the forum also live in the area in Michigan, maybe we can all meet up for drinks or something and a few crazy sessions...

PM me with any specific questions about the area or anything else you might have ?'s about..

Honestly though you are better off going across the border and playing at MotorCity in detroit.

What games do you play? The info here seems pretty solid, however the 10/20 game at Motor City doesn't run much any more. It wasn't going on Fri/Sat and they tried to get one running the past 2 days w/ no success. In fact the last 4 times I was there they couldn't get one going. I hear Windsor has a 10/20nl game, but it only runs on the weekends. Post here or send me a message w/ any specific questions and I'm sure I can help.

Toronto is probably a 3.5 hour drive from Windsor, whereas Detroit Metro is only about an hour-tops.

Detroit is across the border from Windsor. Windsor Casino is directly on the river which separates the two. The airport itself is about 25 minutes away from the border. There is plenty of 1-2 100 max and 2-5 200 max going all the time. There are also $50+10, $100+10, and $200+20 sng's going on around the clock depending on interest. There are daily MTTs alternating $50 and $100 buyins. There is limit omaha sometimes (not sure what days but i've seen it run before. I'm thinking Thursdays maybe?) Last thursday of every month theres a $500 MTT. Fridays and Saturdays there's a 10-20 uncapped NL game which isn't that strong, and you will see lots of people buying in for $5k and up. There is a buttload of bars within walking distance (I think 40 or more). Staying in the casino on weekends can be expensive (we got quoted 240 i think for 2 beds on a friday night), but there are good days inn/holiday inn/travelodge type accomidations within walking distance, we paid $99 for a travelodge thats about 2 blocks away and has a shuttle. The casino also does have shuttles to Detroit airport, you'd have to call for the schedule though and to see if they cost anything.

In terms of other poker in Ontario. Theres a bunch of limit hold em poker rooms all over the place, but NL is only played at Casino Windsor, Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino both in Niagara Falls which is about 4 hours from Windsor, and Casino Rama, which is an hour north of Toronto, so probably about 5 hours away. Theres a really nice limit hold em room in Brantford Ontario about 3 hours from Windsor, I think it has either 12 or 15 tables, is always jammed, and offers 2-5 up to 50-100. There are other smaller limit rooms in Sarnia (an hour from Windsor/Detroit), and a bunch of crappy small towns north of Toronto (all 4 hours+ from Windsor).

Heres a link that sums up poker in ontario.
http://www.olg.ca/slots-casinos/index.jsp

OLG Casinos are government owned charity casinos and offer limit only
Resort Casinos are privately owned and offer both limit and NL.

As other posters have said, there is also 3 casinos in Detroit. I've never been to any of them, but their reputation among the Windsor regulars isn't a pleasant one.

Any other questions feel free to ask

FWIW, only 2 of the 3 casinos in the Detroit area have poker. MGM is supposed to open a new poker room sometime in October and most of the action will probably go there as well.

I used to live there when I was < 21. I just got back from a trip there about a month ago.

Games:

1/2 nl = 100 max, which is now raked @ $4-5 max hand
2/5 nl = 200 max session fee: 7 per 1/2 hr
5/10nl = 500 max session fee: 8 per 1/2 hr
10/20nl = 500 min session fee: 9-10 per 1/2 hr (I forget)

There are uaually two 3/6 limit tables running as well as some 5/10 and 10/20 lhe/lom round by round (sometimes at night)

They also have AWFUL SNG's with like 30 bb stacks, and a tournament every morning at 10:00 AM.

I think I hit most of the poker room info.

Whatever you do, call ahead to get on lists, and then go to papa cheney's for $2 anything canadian club gogogogogogo
