Can someone explain "playing over"? Is he taking over a seat held by someone on dinner break or something to that effect? Same game / same limits as he's wait listed for?

If he's staying in the same game / same limit it seems pretty strange he would be offered the chance to rathole $700 much less forced to rathole it...

If the open seat comes up on a different table then bring him back down to the max buy-in.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can you think of any other situation where that would be the case? When a player is asked to change tables must move, by request, etc) he usually cannot cash out a portion of the funds, why should this be any different?

TT - In most Los Angeles County spread or fixed buyin games if you request a table change you must start with the fixed buy (or a buyin within the spread). On a must move you must take all chips. If the game breaks you usually have options (i.e., you can chip up or down to the proper buyin or take all your chips).

When your playing over and your seat comes open you are treated as a new player.

If this is indeed the rule (and RR seems to concur that it is), it is a terrible rule. I see no logical reason for it, and several logical reasons against it.

At Caesar's IN, you can only be gone from your seat for 20 minutes. If you want to be gone longer, up to an hour, you get a clear plastic box from the floor to place over your chips. Anybody that wants to, can play from your seat while you are gone. His chips are placed on top of the 'Play Over" box so he/she is literally playing over your chip stack.

Those were good days. I don't think many people realize how much progress we made in 6 months of running good tournaments etc.

It's the same way in up in the Bay Area.

Silly question, what does "Play over" mean? I've never heard the term before.

Player sits out for whatever reason (diner break). Floor allows another player waiting on the list to "play over" the player on a break. Usually this is done by placing a box over the breaking player's chips for protection.
