I tip at the cage if it's the same girl I see every night and I'm buying racks every hour if you go the extra distance.

I usually buy in for 5 racks, most cage workers just push the racks to me. One old lady stacked them all so I didn't have to, bam! Insta $2 even though I was stuck like $1000 at the time.

Rick, your point is well taken. I actually wasn't thinking of line jumping but rather the following scenario which happened to me at the Casino in Milwaukee. They have a 2 hour call in rule at Potowatomie(?) and it is about a 2 hour drive from downtown Chicago on a Friday. I got there about 8 min late and was dropped from the list with no willingness to work with me. I have noticed in the past similar situations where "regulars" who go a little past the 2 hour mark are still slipped into a game and unknowns are ignored. It was frustrating to say the least.

I see this in the Chicago/Milw area fairly often. I know a tip is customary, but it isn't obligatory. I worked in retail for years and always thanked people who tipped me, even though, as a waiter, it is customary. I don't get it--sometimes I feel like they are trying to silently tell you that $1 tip is cheap or something and that 2+ is what you should be giving. Isn't a buck sufficient and standard at low buyin NL games?
