Re: Ask me anything about finding thousands of golf balls a year.
This used to be my favorite hobby in my hometown. The country club I belonged to was surrounded on 10 of the 18 holes by OB that was private property, but opened (essentially, undeveloped lots). In the evenings I'd just walk around the course, and get a good 50-100 balls in a bucket. As I mentioned in another thread, if I was feeling adventuresome there is a canyon on one of the holes that players have to shoot over, and its a gold mine.

Re: Ask me anything about finding thousands of golf balls a year.
Canyons on a golf course are gold, yes. In Colorado there was a course near Denver with a large swamp-like canyon. It was probably 100 yards across, very large.
When the golfers approached it it appeared you it was all wasteland, but just inside the treeline, it was basically flat, it just looked swampy. I collected hundreds of balls a day from there, because no one else would go in there. Also, there was a rumor of lots of rattlesnakes, but I never saw one. |

Re: Ask me anything about finding thousands of golf balls a year.
Ahh, this reminds me of my first business as a 2nd-5th grader. I would look for golf balls in the creeks near my house, clean them up, then put them in old egg cartons and sell them back for .25 to $1 a piece. I had a perfect location b/c after the green on this particular course their is a road and a pretty long walk to the next green so I would locate myself just off the road in the grass so they had to come past me. I was never even warned for doing this and occasionally pros and cart girls that came by would give me free cokes. I think I did pretty well for a young kid, making about 15-20 bucks per hour I did this (at least if it was peak day hours).

4. Everything else. If it's not high-end, all the other balls are worth about the same, not much. <snip> The crap balls, about 80 percent of what I collect get sold to driving ranges. They then stripe the balls and it's far cheaper than buying them new. I right now have around 8,000 balls at the house. I need to make a sales run soon. I would sell 50 balls of the low end stuff for $7.50. [/ QUOTE ] This is not quite on the same scale, but... My parents live on a golf course, and over the course of playing almost daily my dad collects probably 1500 or so crap balls per year. He trades them to the owner of the course (not sure if they're resold or range balls) for an all-you-can-hit annual range pass. My sister and I get most of the Pro V1s and other goodies. I'm not sure who gets the better end of the deal, but it's not really any extra work on my dad's part. Feel free to try this yourself, but you may have to leave some of the better balls included as well. |

My brother recently started dredging the lakes on the holes around our house and is making out like a bandit.

I like there to be a little bit of moon out, as too dark can be hazardous as I like to see what's going on around me. I ALWAYS go by myself. Why cut someone else in on some of my profits? |
