$6.50: L1 AKs facing 8x BB raise
Reads: MP1 raised 8x BB and probably sucks
I know its standard to call raises w/ AK in early levels but I'm never sure what to do when someone makes more than a standard raise... PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) CO (t1500) Button (t1490) SB (t1080) BB (t1360) UTG (t2070) UTG+1 (t1500) MP1 (t1500) Hero (t1500) MP3 (t1500) Preflop: Hero is MP2 with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls t20, 1 fold, MP1 raises to t160, Hero? |

I call here, since he sucks his range is probably wide and the chance is good that you can stack him postflop. Also its not the end of the world if you whiff the flop and are left with 1340

Re: $6.50: L1 AKs facing 8x BB raise
When I started playing poker 2-3 years ago, I value-raised like this with JJ+,AQ+ in $5`s turbos..But at that time, I got called by 2-3 players every time, so very profitable..Not anymore ;P
Just push here.. |

Re: $6.50: L1 AKs facing 8x BB raise
I folded, but I'm sure this is easily the worst option. All the talk about preserving chips early turned me into a big nit.
I wasn't sure if its ever ok to flat call early for 10% of my stack. I'm thinking if its ok with any hand, it would be AKs because it hits either tptk or a flush draw + 2 overs ~40% of the time, if I remember right. In either case we can get all the chips in. Also, If a player in later position rereaises pf the hand is strong enough to come back over the top. Arguments for shoving I guess would mainly be for fold equity? I didn't like the though of getting called by 88-QQ which I thought was a big part his range. Not sure if fold equity + the times he calls with hands like AQ are enough to make up for the times we flip w/ PPs. My guess is call > shove > fold. |
